Rapid Method for Counting Reticulocytes.
نویسنده
چکیده
Among the several labour-saving methods for counting reticulocytes reviewed by Dacie and Lewis (1963) the least laborious is the Miller count described by Brecher and Schneiderman (1950). For this method the Miller graticule, a microscope eyepiece graticule with a square of side 7 mm. with a square of one ninth the area in one corner, is used and consecutive fields are counted, reticulocytes in the large square and all red cells in the small square. If x is the number of red cells counted in the small square, p is the proportion of reticulocytes and Sp is the standard error of p.

Optimized Method for Reticulocyte Counting: Simple, Accurate, and Comparable to Flow Cytometry
Background: Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells with RNA, spending the final stages of their maturation in the peripheral blood. The number of reticulocytes in the peripheral blood is the salient evidence of the effectiveness of bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Currently, reticulocyte count is done manually or automatically in clinical laboratories. Difficulties and limitations of...

In the assay of liver extract preparations, whether on pernicious anaemia cases or in laboratory animals, reticulocytosis has always been taken to be the index of therapeutic activity. When working with laboratory animals such as guinea-pigs or rabbits, it is essential that a rapid at the same time accurate method should be adopted for the counting of the reticulocytes. Usually workers have use...
متن کاملReticulocyte counting by flow cytometry. A comparison with manual methods.
The reticulocyte count (RC) is a key diagnostic test in the evaluation, classification, and response to therapy of anemia. The RC, as determined by manual methods, has a frustrating inherent imprecision owing to its binomial counting statistics (i.e., low counts/low precision) and inaccuracy because of inter- and intraobserver variability as to what indeed is a reticulocyte. Fluorescent activat...

We present a statistical path analysis model for the evaluation of two tests in the absence of a "gold standard" method. This model is applied to the evaluation of flow-cytometric and visual reticulocyte counting by using as the comparison method a combination of three hematological measurements: hemoglobin concentration (HGB), mean cellular volume (MCV), and erythrocyte density width (EDW). We...

Reticulocytes in fixed human blood samples were stained for RNA with the fluorescent dye pyronin Y and measured by flow cytometry. The resulting relative frequency distributions of the RNA fluorescence intensities concurred with the different stages in maturation from early reticulocytes to mature red cells. A computer program was written to calculate from these frequency distributions the rela...
